Amos 7

Amos 7:11

"For thus says Amos, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall be led away captive from his land."
Did Jeroboam die by the sword?

Amos 7:11 says: 'Jeroboam shall die by the sword and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of there own land.'

A critic sets this against 2 Kings 14:29, which says 'Jeroboam slept with his fathers...'. The critic implies that this means he did not die by the sword, arguing that 'slept' is not the biblical word used for those who die by the sword.

However, there is no Hebrew word study to prove this assertion. In fact, King Ahab died a very violent death in battle, and dogs licked up his blood afterwards, yet the Bible still says that Ahab 'rested' with his fathers (1 Kings 22:37, 40), and it uses the exact same Hebrew word (shakab, which means 'laid down'). This idiom simply means to die and join one's ancestors, regardless of the method of death.
