Amos 7:14
"And Amos answered, and said to Amasias, I was not a prophet, nor the son of a prophet; but I was a herdman, and a gatherer of sycamore fruits."
Did the prophecy against Amaziah fail?
Critics point out that Amos told Amaziah that his wife would be a harlot in the city, his children would fall by the sword, and he would die in a polluted land (Amos 7:17). They contrast this with 2 Kings 14:19, which says Amaziah was slain in Lachish, and note that his son Uzziah succeeded him on the throne and died a leper.
The flaw in this objection is that these are two entirely different individuals named Amaziah. Amos 7:10 clearly states that the Amaziah he was addressing was the priest of Bethel. The Amaziah mentioned in 2 Kings is a king of Judah.
