Amos 7

Amos 7:17

"Therefore thus says the Lord; Your wife shall be a harlot in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be measured with the line; and you shall die in an unclean land; and Israel shall be led captive out of his land. Thus has the Lord God showed me."
Did the prophecy against Amaziah fail?

Critics point out that Amos told Amaziah that his wife would be a harlot in the city, his children would fall by the sword, and he would die in a polluted land (Amos 7:17). They contrast this with 2 Kings 14:19, which says Amaziah was slain in Lachish, and note that his son Uzziah succeeded him on the throne and died a leper.

The flaw in this objection is that these are two entirely different individuals named Amaziah. Amos 7:10 clearly states that the Amaziah he was addressing was the priest of Bethel. The Amaziah mentioned in 2 Kings is a king of Judah.
