Is a 12-month beauty treatment excessive?
Some critics have objected to the incredible length of this "beauty treatment." Albright responded by citing a parallel practice among 19th-century Ethiopians who used a special fumigating "cosmetic burner," but it is probably enough to point out that this passage highlights the extravagance and artificiality of the Persian court. The tyrannical and wealthy will go to whatever extremes please them.
