Hebrews 11

Hebrews 11:23

"By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king's edict."
Was Moses' Mother Afraid or Not?
Contrasting Link: Exodus 2:2

Exodus 2:2 states that Moses' mother hid him for three months. Hebrews 11:23 says that his parents hid him:

> "and they were not afraid of the king's commandment."

Critics claim this is a contradiction: 'If Moses' mother was not afraid, then why did she hide Moses?' This objection conflates paralyzing fear with prudent common sense. She hid the child because she fiercely loved him and rationally did not want her baby murdered by the state, not because she was cowering in terror. Her defiance in hiding him proves her lack of fear regarding the king's unjust edict.
