Hebrews 4:12
The Living and Creative Power of the Substantial Word of God
Unlike a human word which is just an empty sound, the Word of God is living, active, and possesses true existence. St. Athanasius emphasizes that the Son is the Creator of everything, and nothing was made without Him.
And man's words avail not for operation; hence man works not by means of words but of hands, for they have being, and man's word subsists not. But the 'Word of God,' as the Apostle says, 'is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight; but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.' He is then Framer of all, 'and without Him was made not one thing,' nor can anything be made without Him.
