Hebrews 6:18
"so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us."
Is it impossible for God to lie, or are all things possible?
Skeptics ask, how is this so, if Jesus says all things are possible with God (Matt. 19:26)? This objection confuses God's nature with His power to do something. An all-powerful being cannot do things that contradict His own nature. In this case, God cannot lie because He is perfectly good. God cannot destroy Himself because He is a necessary being. God cannot make 2+2=5 because His own nature is the foundation of truth and logic. Such philosophical impossibilities are not "things," which is implicitly understood in the statement that "all things are possible."
