Isaiah 7

Isaiah 7:1

"And it came to pass in the days of Achaz [the son] of Joatham, the son of Ozias, king of Juda, there came up Rasim king of Aram, and Phakee son of Romelias, king of Israel, against Jerusalem to war against it, but they could not take it."
Did Rezin and Pekah conquer Judah or not?
Contrasting Link: 2CH 28:5

> Isaiah 7:4-7 Take heed, be quiet, do not fear... because of these two firebrands... saying let us go up against Judah and terrify it, and let us conquer it for ourselves... it shall not stand and it shall not come to pass.

Some claim that God falsely promised Ahaz that his enemies, Rezin and Pekah, would not harm him, yet Ahaz and his forces were slaughtered by them according to 2 Chronicles 28:5-6.

This objection leaves out a key phrase. After Isaiah 7:6 says "conquer it for ourselves," it adds "and make the son of Tabeel king in it." In verses 8-15, 2 Chronicles details the aftermath of Rezin and Pekah's victory. They were about to take the people captive and plunder their property when the prophet Obed came and told them to let the people go, which they did. As 2 Chronicles 28:16 notes, Ahaz was still alive. So while they did technically conquer Judah, they never got to enjoy the spoils of war or replace Ahaz as king, which was their ultimate plan that God said would not come to pass.
