Luke 1:44
""For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy."
Is it biologically plausible for a fetus to hear and understand speech?
Critics sometimes question the plausibility of a fetus hearing and reacting to speech as described when the baby leaped in Elizabeth's womb. However, it is biologically established that fetuses can perceive sounds from the outside quite well beyond a certain stage of development. Furthermore, the text only asserts that the baby heard the sound of the greeting and reacted to it, not that it necessarily comprehended the linguistic meaning of the words.
