Luke 23:12
"Now Herod and Pilate became friends with one another that very day; for before they had been enemies with each other."
Were Herod and Pilate Friends or Enemies?
Luke 23:12 notes that on the day of Jesus' trial, Herod and Pilate became friends, having previously been enemies. Skeptics regard this as untrue, claiming that historical records show Herod was continually plotting to unite his Galilee with Pilate's Judea, meaning they remained political enemies. Even if this political tension remained true, it is irrelevant to the matter of personal relations between the two men. Two leaders can harbor long-term political rivalries while experiencing a temporary personal or diplomatic detente over a shared mutual interest or crisis.
