Luke 24

Luke 24:17

"And He said to them, "What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?" And they stood still, looking sad."
If Jesus Was Omniscient, Why Did He Ask Questions?

In Luke 24:17, the resurrected Jesus asks the travelers on the road to Emmaus:

> "What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?"

Critics argue this displays ignorance, contradicting the theological claim of divine omniscience. This objection imposes a rigid literalism that fails to recognize basic rhetorical communication. In both ancient and modern social contexts, questions are frequently asked rhetorically not to gather unknown information, but to initiate dialogue, elicit a confession, or gently draw a response out of the listener.
