Matthew 26

Matthew 26:55

"At that time Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as [you would] against a robber? Every day I used to sit in the temple teaching and you did not seize Me."
Was Jesus deceitful when He said He taught daily in the temple without being arrested?
Contrasting Link: JOH 8:59

Contrasting Matthew 26:55 ("I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.") with John 8:59 ("Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.") overlooks the fact that the statement in Matthew is said entirely in the context of Passion Week, not as a summary of Jesus' entire life.

Furthermore, this is not deceitful. It was absolutely true that Jesus taught in the Temple and that the arresting group (most likely Sanhedrin guards) never laid hold of Him during those daily sessions. The individuals attempting to stone Him in John 8 were not Temple guards or officials executing an arrest; they were an impromptu mob reacting to His teachings.
