Surah 10

Surah 10:15

"When Our signs are recited to them as clear signs, those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, ‘Bring a different Qur’ān than this one, or change it.’ Say: ‘It is not for me to change it of my own accord. I only follow what I am inspired (with). Surely I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the punishment of a great Day.’"

10.15 – When Our signs are recited to them as clear signs
The preaching may be peaceful, but in many parts of this sūra the audience does not accept the message (see vv. 2–3, 15–18, 20–21, 31–35, 48–53, 68–69). These passages give the sense of a controversial encounter in progress between a speaker and an audience. The audience evidently asks for a different recitation ( qur ’ ān ) than the speaker is giving. The speaker responds that he can only recite what Allah has inspired him to say.
