Does the Quran describe divine creation as an instantaneous act, a process spanning several days, or requiring physical means? Some verses state that God creates instantaneously by simply decreeing 'Be,' while other passages state that the creation of the heavens and the earth occurred over six days, and another details a timeline totaling eight days. Furthermore, regarding the concept of a son, some verses question how God could have a son without a consort, implying a necessity for means, while other verses state that He could choose a son if He willed or grant a son without a consort, as in the case of Mary.
Intercession on the Day of Judgment
Supporting Verses
Surah 20:109 → "On that Day intercession will not be of any benefit, except for the one to whom the Merciful gives permission, and whose word He approves."
Surah 2:255 → "God – (there is) no god but Him, the Living, the Everlasting. Slumber does not overtake Him, nor sleep. To Him (belongs) whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is the one who will intercede with Him, except by His permission? He knows whatever is before them and whatever is behind them, but they cannot encompass any of His knowledge, except whatever He pleases. His throne comprehends the heavens and the earth. Watching over both of them does not weary him. He is the Most High, the Almighty."
Opposing Verses
Surah 2:123 → "Guard (yourselves) against a Day when no one will intercede for another at all, and no compensation will be accepted from him, and no intercession will benefit him, nor will they be helped."
Surah 2:254 → "You who believe! Contribute from what We have provided you, before a Day comes when (there will be) no bargaining, and no friendship, and no intercession. The disbelievers – they are the evildoers."
Surah 2:47 → "Sons of Israel! Remember My blessing which I bestowed on you, and that I have favored you over the worlds."
Surah 2:48 → "Guard (yourselves) against a Day when no one will intercede for another at all, and no intercession will be accepted from him, and no compensation taken from him, nor will they be helped."
Does the Quran allow for intercession on the Day of Judgment? Some verses state absolutely that no intercession will be accepted or benefit anyone, while other verses indicate that intercession is possible, but only with God's permission.
