Surah 10

Surah 10:46

"Whether We show you some of that which We promise them, or take you, to Us is their return. Then God is a witness over what they do."

10.46 – Whether We show you some of that which We promise them, or take you
The Quran addresses the messenger directly to tell him that Allah may not necessarily show him his judgment of the people.
In this verse, Droge translates the Arabic verb tawaffā as “take” (see also v. 104) adding “in death” in a footnote. Several Muslim translations render the verb as “cause to die” (Pickthall, Shakir, Mohsin Khan, Sahih International, Muhammad Sarwar). Yet none of these five translates tawaffā in the same way at 3.55, where ‘Īsā is the object of the verb. See the comments at 3.55 and “The Death of Jesus in the Quran”.
