أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡفِيلِ

Have you not seen how your Lord did with the companions of the elephant?

Theological Defect
Islamic Tafsir (e.g., Ibn Kathir) acknowledges that Abraha's army consisted of Christians who were 'closer to the True Religion' than the pagan Quraysh. Portraying God as arbitrarily destroying a monotheistic Christian army to miraculously protect a Kaaba filled with 360 pagan idols presents a profound theological defect regarding God's justice and priorities.

وَأَرۡسَلَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ طَيۡرًا أَبَابِيلَ

He sent against them birds in flocks

Borrowed Mythology & Plagiarism
This verse incorporates pre-Islamic Arabian folklore regarding the defense of the Kaaba against Abraha's army. Critical historians recognize the story of magical birds as a mythologized local legend, which the Quran adopts as literal truth.
Historical Error
The Quran presents the destruction of Abraha's army by flocks of miraculous birds as a literal event. However, verifiable historical evidence indicates the army's failure was due to a natural epidemic such as smallpox, revealing a historical blunder where folklore is treated as fact.

تَرۡمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٖ مِّن سِجِّيلٖ

– (which) were pelting them with stones of baked clay –

Borrowed Mythology & Plagiarism
The depiction of birds pelting soldiers with 'stones of baked clay' (Sijjil) reflects pre-existing local Arabian legends surrounding the Kaaba's preservation, elevating regional folklore to the status of divine revelation.
Historical Error
Attributing the defeat of an army to miraculous stones of baked clay rather than the historical reality of a devastating plague demonstrates a historical error, adopting a mythical explanation for a natural event.
