This very short sūra has exerted an influence out of proportion to its length. Christians living in the Muslim world have experienced the double negation of verse 3 as a source of vigorous Muslim polemic against the divine Sonship of Jesus.

112.1 – Say: “He is God. One!”
Scholars have pointed out that the word translated here “One,” aḥad, is not the standard Arabic word, which is wāḥid. They have also noted that aḥad appears nowhere else in the Quran. Some have suggested influence from the Jewish Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4), which uses the Hebrew ’eḥād.
