Surah 16:106
"Whoever disbelieves in God after having believed – except for someone who is compelled, yet his heart is (still) secure in belief – and whoever expands his heart in disbelief – on them is anger from God, and for them (there is) a great punishment."
16.106 – Whoever disbelieves in God after having believed
This verse is one of a series of verses that are discussed in relation to apostasy (also 2.217; 3.86–91; 4.89, 137; 88.23, 24). Here disbelief after belief brings Allah’s wrath and punishment, apparently in the “Hereafter” (v. 109). However, some Muslim scholars have justified the penalty of death for apostates from this verse.
