Surah 16:120

Here “community” translates the Arabic term umma , which Muslims understand to mean the community of Islam. Ḥanīf is often taken to mean “upright” or “of pure faith.” On Ḥanīf , see the comment at 2.135. The Quran recommends the character of Abraham as an example for the messenger to follow.
