17.22 – Do not set up another god with God
These words begin an extended passage of commandments (vv. 22–39) that show some similarities to the Ten Commandments of Exodus 20. The passage ends with a recap of the command not to set up another god with Allah (v. 39).
This law passage also treats behavior toward parents (v. 23); justice to kinsmen, the poor, and the traveler (v. 26); killing and adultery (vv. 31–33); and honesty in the marketplace (v. 35).
