Surah 17

Surah 17:59

"Nothing prevented Us from sending the signs, except that those of old called them a lie. We gave Thamūd the she-camel as a visible (sign), but they did her evil. We send the signs only to frighten."

17.59 – Nothing prevented Us from sending the signs
This verse raises the question of whether Allah’s messengers come accompanied by “signs” (āyāt), understood as miracles.
In the conversations and debates that sprang up between the conquering Arabs and the Christians and Jews in the Islamic Empire, it was not unusual for non-Muslims to ask whether the messenger of Islam had any miracles to show in support of the Muslim claim for the divine origin of the Quran. In available documents from that early period, some Christians and Jews cited Q 17.59 and 17.90–96. Non-Muslims asserted that miracles by Moses and Jesus supported the truth of the Torah and Gospel.
