19.30 – He has given me the Book and made me a prophet
‘Īsā speaks from the cradle to say that Allah has already given him “the Book.” Verses like this (also 5.46; 57.27) seem to be behind the Muslim misconception that the Gospel ( injīl ) is a book given to ‘Īsā rather than an account of Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection. Other verses say that Allah teaches ‘Īsā the Gospel (3.48; 5.110) or “sends down” the Gospel (3.3, 65). See the analysis of the Quran’s “Gospel” verses at 57.27.
