Surah 19

Surah 19:41

"And remember in the Book Abraham: Surely he was a man of truth, a prophet."

19.41 – And remember in the Book Abraham
Abraham challenges his father persistently about his idol worship (vv. 42–44), but his father does not appreciate the challenge (v. 46). Abraham promises his father to ask forgiveness on his behalf (v. 47) but also departs from his father and his idolatry (vv. 48–49).
Stories of Abraham’s opposition to idolatry appear frequently in the Quran, each adding details that are not included in other quranic versions. In most of the stories, Abraham preaches to his people as well; only in this version is Abraham’s father the main focus.
