Surah 19

Surah 19:49

"So when he had withdrawn from them and what they were serving instead of God, We granted him Isaac and Jacob, and each one We made a prophet."

19.49 – We granted him Isaac and Jacob, and each one We made a prophet
That Isaac, not Ishmael, is mentioned as the son God granted to Abraham may come as a surprise to readers who are familiar with the importance of Ishmael in Islam. In this sūra Ishmael’s name only appears at verse 54, with no connection made to Abraham. The same pattern is followed in a number of quranic passages. See the analysis of this pattern at 21.72.
Elsewhere, the Quran offers a brief story about Abraham that features only Ishmael (2.125–127).
