2.40 – Sons of Israel! Remember My blessing which I bestowed on you

This passage (v. 40–48) is addressed directly to the Sons of Israel (Banū Isrā’īl). This is a good example of a kind of literature known as “polemic,” which challenges others’ beliefs or practices. Polemic literature appears frequently in the Quran. It brings to mind a confrontation between a messenger and his audience.
