Surah 2

Surah 2:99

"Certainly We have sent down to you clear signs, and no one disbelieves them except the wicked."

2.99 – Certainly We have sent down to you clear signs

The voice of the Quran speaks directly to the messenger to claim that the “clear signs” (āyāt) have been “sent down” to him. This kind of apparently self-conscious “messenger” material repeats many times throughout the Quran (e.g., vv. 119–20, 145).

Muslims understand the voice of the Quran to be Allah and the addressee to be Muhammad. Curiously, however, the name Muhammad is never directly addressed in the Quran.
