"Has the story of Moses come to you?"
20.9 – Has the story of Moses come to you?
This question starts one of the longest and most detailed versions of the Moses story in the Quran (vv. 9–98). The question itself seems to imply that the story is generally known or readily available. This version starts out with the burning bush episode and then goes back to recount Moses’ childhood.
The story includes many of the narrative elements familiar from the Torah. However, one plot detail here is not found in the Bible. The Quran says that a character called al-Sāmirī led the people astray (vv. 85–98). See the table of Moses narratives plotted against familiar narrative elements.
