Surah 21

Surah 21:32

"And We have made the sky as a guarded roof. Yet they (still) turn away from its signs."
Claimed Miracle: Atmospheric Science
APOLOGIST CLAIM

"The Quran predicts the protective ozone layer and atmosphere by describing the sky as a 'well-protected ceiling'."

Refutation & Exegesis

The phrasing of the sky as a 'protected ceiling' or 'canopy' was universally understood in Late Antiquity as a literal, solid dome encompassing the flat earth. Classical Islamic exegesis did not view this as a gaseous atmospheric layer protecting against ultraviolet radiation or meteorites. Instead, scholars interpreted the 'protection' as God guarding the physical dome of the heavens from being breached by rebellious jinn (demons) attempting to listen to the angels, an understanding heavily reinforced by other verses describing stars as literal missiles thrown at devils.
Reinterpretation

To align with modern atmospheric science, apologists radically reinterpret the concept of a solid 'ceiling' protecting the earth from demons (the standard classical exegesis) into an invisible 'ozone layer' protecting against ultraviolet rays, fundamentally hijacking the verse's original intent.
