These verses about David and Solomon (78–82) refer to Solomon’s wisdom as well as to extrabiblical traditions about the two figures. That mountains and birds are subjected to David (v. 80) seems to refer to expressions in the Psalms that exhort nature to praise God. The Quran says that Solomon has authority over “satans” (v. 82) and jinn (34.12–13).
