The way that Allah made Mary (not named here) pregnant with ‘Īsā is described in a couple of different ways in the Quran. The expression in this verse is also found at 66.12, while at 19.17 “the spirit” comes to Mary in human form to simply “give” her a son. On “spirit” in the Quran, see the analysis at 97.4.
