Surah 21:96
"until, when Yajūj and Majūj are opened, and they come swooping down from every height,"
– until, when Yajūj and Majūj are opened
Yajūj and Majūj seem to be an echo of the ruler “Gog” and the people “Magog” in Ezekiel 38–39. At 18.94 they are associated with Dhū ’l-Qarnayn (“he of the two horns,” referring to Alexander the Great). The association with Alexander was also made in postbiblical Christian writings such as the Syriac “Legend of Alexander.” See the focus article “Apocryphal Details in Quranic Stories”.
