– We sent among them a messenger from among them
The Quran here offers a story similar to the preceding Noah story, but this time it does not name the messenger or the people to whom he preached (vv. 31–41). As such, this passage serves as a good example of the typical plot lines in many of the Quran’s messenger stories. As if to affirm this template, verses 42–44 summarize the story in even simpler terms. Notice the repeating response from the audience to the messenger: “This is nothing but a human being like you” (vv. 24, 33; cf. 47, 69).
