The Quran speaks of the pre-Islamic scriptures only in the most positive and respectful way. This verse refers to the Torah as the book given to Moses, and describes it as guidance. The following verses seem to say that problems came when Jews and Christians divided over the scriptures (v. 53). On disagreement and division among the People of the Book, see the discussion at 98.4.
