Surah 24:56
"Observe the prayer and give the alms, and obey the messenger, so that you may receive compassion."

In other parts of the Quran, performing ritual prayer and giving alms seem to represent islām (“submission”). And this verse adds obedience to the messenger. All three are required in order to receive mercy.
This command to obey “the messenger” also appears without the accompanying “obey Allah” (see the comment at v. 54).
