Surah 24

Surah 24:62

"Only those are believers who believe in God and His messenger, and who, when they are with him on some common matter, do not go away until they ask his permission. Surely those who ask your permission – those are the ones who believe in God and His messenger. When they ask your permission for some affair of theirs, give permission to whomever you please of them, and ask forgiveness for them from God. Surely God is forgiving, compassionate."

24.62 – Only those are believers who believe in God and His messenger

This verse makes explicit what is implicit – and often seemingly invisible – in many other quranic passages. In the Quran, true belief is not just any kind of religious faith (see 2.4) but is specific to “Allah and His messenger.” In Muslim daily life today, this is reflected emphatically in the Islamic shahāda (confession of faith) and in the public call to ritual prayer.

The instructions in verses 62 and 63 for how to behave in the presence of “the messenger” provide a good example of “personal situation” passages. Such passages are most extensive in Sūra 33.
