26.160 – The people of Lot called the envoys liars
Lot preaches to his people and asks them, “Do you approach the males of all peoples, and leave your wives whom your Lord created for you?” (vv. 165–66).
This passage (vv. 160–73) is the fourth of eight versions of the Lot story in the Quran and unique in indicating a concept of a created order that echoes Genesis 2. Another difference is that while the woman who is left behind is Lot’s wife in the earlier three versions, here she is “an old woman” who stays behind (v. 171).
