26.196 – Surely it is indeed in the scriptures of those of old
This verse seems to represent a positive view of the pre-Islamic scriptures ( zubur ), as well as an appeal to the earlier scriptures for authority. The following verse, which indicates that the learned men (‘ ulamā ’) among the Children of Israel “knew” (perhaps the stories presented in this sūra?), also suggests a positive attitude toward the Jews.
