Recite to them the story of Abraham:
When he said to his father and his people, ‘What do you serve?’
They said, ‘We serve idols, and continue (to be) devoted to them.’
He said, ‘Do they hear you when you call,
or do they benefit you or harm (you)?’
They said, ‘No! But we found our fathers doing so.’
He said, ‘Do you see what you have been serving,
you and your fathers who preceded (you)?
Surely they are an enemy to me – except the Lord of the worlds,

meaning: what are these statues to which you are so devoted?
