Surah 27:64

Verse 63

Or (is He not better) who guides you in the darkness of the shore and the sea, and who sends the winds as good news before His mercy? (Is there any other) god with God? God is exalted above what they associate!

Verse 64

Or (is He not better) who brings about the creation, (and) then restores it, and who provides for you from the sky and the earth? (Is there any other) god with God? Say: ‘Bring your proof, if you are truthful.’

{and Who sends the winds as heralds of glad tidings, going before His mercy?} meaning, ahead of the clouds which bring rain, by means of which Allah shows His mercy to His servants who are suffering drought and despair. {Is there any god with Allah? Exalted be Allah above all that they associate as partners!} He is the One Who, by His might and power, originates... {Say: "Bring forth your proofs, if you are truthful."} Produce the evidence of that. But it is known that they have no proof or evidence, as Allah says: {And whoever invokes besides Allah, any other god, of whom he has no proof; then his reckoning is only with his Lord. Surely, the disbelievers will not be successful.} 23:117

About this Source & Scholarly Authority (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Universal Sunni Consensus: Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Azim by Hafiz Ibn Kathir (701–774 AH / 1301–1373 AD) is universally regarded across all major schools of Sunni Islam (traditional, Salafi, Ash'ari) as the most authoritative classical exegesis. It is prized because it relies on Tafsir bil-Ma'thur—interpreting the Quran using the Quran itself, authentic Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad, and recorded statements of the early Companions (Sahabah).

Standard English Edition: This text is from the standard 10-volume English abridgment published by Dar-us-Salam Publications (supervised by Shaykh Safiur-Rahman Al-Mubarakpuri), which is the official, most widely distributed English Quranic commentary in mosques and Islamic libraries worldwide today.
