Surah 27

Surah 27:7

"(Remember) when Moses said to his family: ‘Surely I perceive a fire. I shall bring you some news of it, or I shall bring you a flame – a torch – so that you may warm yourselves.’"

27.7 – when Moses said to his family: “Surely I perceive a fire . . .”

This second version of the burning bush episode (vv. 7–13) is unique in the number of names it gives for God. Moses addresses God as Allah and “Lord of the worlds” (rabb al-‘ālamīn) in verse 8, while Allah describes himself as “the Mighty” (‘azīz) and “the Wise” (ḥakīm) in verse 9 and as “forgiving” (ghafūr) and “compassionate” (raḥīm) in verse 11.

The two other versions of the burning bush story are at 20:10–48 and 28:29–35.
