Surah 28:29
he perceived a fire on the side of the mountain
This third of three versions of the burning bush episode (vv. 29–35) is the only one that specifies that Moses was called from the tree on “the right side of the wādī, in the blessed hollow” (v. 30). Here God introduces himself as Allah, “Lord of the worlds.” Compare this with the other two versions of this story found at 20:10–48 and 27:7–12.
Because the biblical account of Moses and the burning bush (Exodus 3) is so important for God’s call of Moses and the Children of Israel, some readers may be interested to compare the names God gives for himself in the two scriptures. The Quran does not come close to the name God gives in the Torah account: “I AM WHO I AM,” or “Yahweh” (Exodus 3:14). However, the Quran gives God several meaningful names in its versions, especially at 27.8–11, and the three passages indicate a great deal of divine affection toward Moses.
