Surah 28

Surah 28:76

"Surely Qārūn was one of the people of Moses, and acted oppressively toward them. We had given him treasures, the keys of which would indeed have been a burden for a group (of men) endowed with strength. (Remember) when his people said to him, ‘Do not gloat! Surely God does not love those who gloat."

Surely Qārūn was one of the people of Moses, and acted oppressively toward them
This story of Korah, or Qārūn (vv. 76–82), portrays him as possessing great wealth but neglecting “the Home of the Hereafter” (v. 77). Allah caused the earth to swallow him (v. 81). Korah is also named at 29.39 and 40.24.
The Torah account of Korah (Heb. Qōraḥ) is found in Numbers 16; there, as in Jude 11, he is the quintessential example of rebellion.

Surely God does not love those who gloat
The Quran contains twenty-four statements about the kinds of people whom Allah does not love. In addition to the statement in this verse, the following verse says that Allah withholds his love from “the fomenters of corruption” (mufsidūn, v. 77; also 5.64).
