Surah 29:46
"Do not dispute with the People of the Book except with what is better – except for those of them who do evil. And say: ‘We believe in what has been sent down to us, and what has been sent down to you. Our God and your God is one, and to Him we submit.’"
29.46 – Do not dispute with the People of the Book except with what is better
This and the following verse seem to reflect a situation in which relations with the People of the Book were good and the messenger understood his recitations to agree with the pre-Islamic scriptures. See a discussion of the Quran’s approach to the People of the Book at 98.1.
