كُلُّ نَفۡسٖ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۖ ثُمَّ إِلَيۡنَا تُرۡجَعُونَ

Verse 58

Those who have believed and done righteous deeds – We shall indeed settle them in exalted rooms of the Garden, through which rivers flow, there to remain. Excellent is the reward of the doers,

who are patient and trust in their Lord.

Verse 60

How many a creature (there is which) does not carry its own provision, yet God provides for it and for you. He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

Quoted Scripture
"We shall surely give lofty dwellings in Paradise, underneath which rivers flow,"

meaning, ‘We shall cause them to dwell in lofty homes in Paradise under which various kinds of rivers flow - water, wine, honey and milk - which they can direct and cause to flow wherever they wish.’

{to live therein forever.} means, they will remain there forever, never wanting to leave.

Quoted Scripture
"Excellent is the reward for the workers."

these rooms will be a blessed reward for the good deeds of the believers,

{Those who are patient,} in adhering to their religion, who migrated for the sake of Allah and fought the enemy, leaving behind their families and relatives to seek Allah’s Face, and hoping for that which is with Him, believing His promise.

Ibn Abi Hatim, may Allah have mercy on him, recorded from Abu Mu'aniq Al-Ash‘ari that Abu Malik Al-Ash‘ari told him that the Messenger of Allah told him:

«In Paradise there are rooms whose outside can be seen from the inside, and their inside can be seen from the outside; Allah has prepared them for those who feed others, who speak well, who pray and fast continually, and who stand in prayer at night while people are asleep.»

Quoted Scripture
"and put their trust in their Lord."

Universal Sunni Consensus: Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Azim by Hafiz Ibn Kathir (701–774 AH / 1301–1373 AD) is universally regarded across all major schools of Sunni Islam (traditional, Salafi, Ash'ari) as the most authoritative classical exegesis. It is prized because it relies on Tafsir bil-Ma'thur—interpreting the Quran using the Quran itself, authentic Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad, and recorded statements of the early Companions (Sahabah).

Standard English Edition: This text is from the standard 10-volume English abridgment published by Dar-us-Salam Publications (supervised by Shaykh Safiur-Rahman Al-Mubarakpuri), which is the official, most widely distributed English Quranic commentary in mosques and Islamic libraries worldwide today.
