Surah 3:13
"There was a sign for you in the two cohorts which met: one cohort fighting in the way of God, and another disbelieving. They saw them twice as many (as themselves) with (their own) eyesight. God supports with His help whomever He pleases. Surely in that is a lesson indeed for those have sight."
– one cohort fighting in the way of Allah, and another disbelieving
When the Quran describes the “believers” as “fighting in the way (sabīl) of Allah,” it makes a theological claim by associating Allah with human fighting. See an analysis of such expressions at 73.20.
According to Muslim tradition, this verse refers to a battle in which the Muslims of Medina fought against the people of Mecca, known as the battle of Badr.
