– Do not think of those who have been killed in the way of God as dead. No! (They are) alive with their Lord (and) provided for

Here the Quran explains what happens to those who “are killed in the way of Allah” – in other words, who die while fighting. This verse claims that these warriors immediately become alive in the next life and that Allah provides for them. Description of the rewards continues in verses 170–72.
