Surah 3:18

"God has borne witness that (there is) no god but Him – and (so have) the angels, and the people of knowledge, (who) uphold justice. (There is) no god but Him, the Mighty, the Wise."

– God has borne witness that (there is) no god but Him

The words of verses 18 and 19 are also found in the mosaic inscriptions in the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, which was built in AD 691. The reason is not hard to discern. The words make exclusive claims for Allah and for Islam and also comment on “those who were given the book” – that is, the then conquered communities of Christians and Jews in the Arab Empire.
