Surah 3:195
"And their Lord responded to them: ‘Surely I do not let a deed of anyone of you go to waste – whether male or female – you are all alike. Those who have emigrated, and were expelled from their homes, and suffered harm in My way, and have fought and been killed – I shall indeed absolve them of their evil deeds, and I shall indeed cause them to enter Gardens through which rivers flow. A reward from God! God – with Him is the best reward.’"
Equality of Men and Women
Opposing Verses
Surah 2:228 → "(Let) the divorced women wait by themselves for three periods. It is not permitted to them to conceal what God has created in their wombs, if they believe in God and the Last Day. Their husbands have a better right to take them back in that (period), if they wish to set (things) right. Women rightfully have the same privilege (as is exercised) over them, but men have a rank above them. God is mighty, wise."
Surah 4:34 → "Men are supervisors of women because God has favored some of them over others, and because they have contributed from their wealth. Righteous women are obedient, watching over (affairs) in the absence (of their husbands) because God has watched over (them). (As for) those women whom you fear may be rebellious: admonish them, avoid them in bed, and (finally) strike them. If they obey you, do not seek (any further) way against them. Surely God is most high, great."
Does the Quran state that men and women are equal? One verse states that males and females are alike regarding their deeds, while other verses state that men are supervisors of women and hold a rank above them.
