Surah 3

Surah 3:45

"When the angels said, ‘Mary! Surely God gives you good news of a word from Him: his name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, eminent in this world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near."
Annunciation to Mary

Supporting Verses

Surah 3:42 → "And (remember) when the angels said, ‘Mary! Surely God has chosen you and purified you, and He has chosen you over all other women."
Surah 3:43 → "Mary! Be obedient to your Lord, and prostrate yourself and bow with the ones who bow.’"

Opposing Verses

Surah 19:17 → "and took a veil apart from them, We sent to her Our spirit, and it took for her the form of a human being exactly."
Surah 19:18 → "She said, ‘Surely I take refuge with the Merciful from you, if you are one who guards (yourself).’"
Does the Quran state that multiple angels or a single spirit appeared to Mary? Some verses indicate that angels (plural) spoke to her, while another verse states that God sent a single spirit, who took the form of a human being, to deliver the news.
Fate of Entities Worshipped Besides God

Supporting Verses

Surah 4:158 → "No! God raised him to Himself. God is mighty, wise."

Opposing Verses

Surah 21:98 → "‘Surely you, and what you were serving instead of God, are stones for Gehenna – you will go down to it.’"
A potential conflict exists in the Quran regarding the fate of entities worshipped instead of God. One verse states that whatever is worshipped besides God will be fuel for Hell. However, other verses state that Jesus, who is worshipped by some, is highly honored, eminent, and brought near to God.
