Surah 30:56

"but those who have been given knowledge and belief will say (to them), ‘You have remained in the Book of God until the Day of Raising Up, and this is the Day of Raising Up, but you did not know (it).’"

Verse 54

۞ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن ضَعۡفٖ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ضَعۡفٖ قُوَّةٗ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ قُوَّةٖ ضَعۡفٗا وَشَيۡبَةٗۚ يَخۡلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٱلۡقَدِيرُ

(It is) God who created you from weakness, then after weakness He made strength, (and) then after strength He made weakness and grey hair. He creates whatever He pleases. He is the Knowing, the Powerful.

Verse 55

وَيَوۡمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ يُقۡسِمُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ مَا لَبِثُواْ غَيۡرَ سَاعَةٖۚ كَذَٰلِكَ كَانُواْ يُؤۡفَكُونَ

On the Day when the Hour strikes, the sinners will swear they remained (in the grave) only for an hour – that is how deluded they were –

Verse 56

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡعِلۡمَ وَٱلۡإِيمَٰنَ لَقَدۡ لَبِثۡتُمۡ فِي كِتَٰبِ ٱللَّهِ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ ٱلۡبَعۡثِۖ فَهَٰذَا يَوۡمُ ٱلۡبَعۡثِ وَلَٰكِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ

but those who have been given knowledge and belief will say (to them), ‘You have remained in the Book of God until the Day of Raising Up, and this is the Day of Raising Up, but you did not know (it).’

Verse 57

فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّا يَنفَعُ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ مَعۡذِرَتُهُمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يُسۡتَعۡتَبُونَ

On that Day their excuses will not benefit those who have done evil, nor will they be allowed to make amends.

Quoted Scripture

"And He is the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful."

Here Allah tells us of the ignorance of the disbelievers in this world and in the Hereafter. In this world they worship idols, and in the Hereafter they will also display great ignorance. They will swear by Allah that they did not even stay for one hour in this world. They will mean that there was not enough time given to establish proof against them which would leave them with no excuse. Allah says:

Quoted Scripture

"thus were they ever deluded. And those who have been bestowed with knowledge and Faith will say: "Indeed you have stayed according to the decree of Allah, until the Day of Resurrection ...""

The believers who have knowledge of the Hereafter will respond to them, just as they established the proof of Allah against them in this world. When they swear that they did not stay even one hour in this world, they will say to them:

"Indeed you have stayed according to the decree of Allah,"

meaning, the Book of deeds,
